Go after the ball

They won't attack the ball or pressure for rebounds The parents thought I'd lost my mind when I showed up with my Deep Sea Rod and a bag of candy but it didn't take long for them to see the method to my madness. I am a firm believer that the more I shoot, the luckier I get and it drives me crazy when players just wait for the ball. I want them to attack the ball. I showed them the bag of candy, (my motivator), tied it to my fishing line, lined the kids up and cast it in front of them. "GET THE CANDY"! I reeled it in like a madman and they chased it like cats after a ball of string. I kept shouting "GET THE CANDY"! The kids had a lot of fun, their parents laughed hysterically, right up until I sent them home, kids in tow, on full sugar overload. From that point on, in practices and games, all I had to do was shout out "GET THE CANDY" and they knew exactly what to do. The parents would laugh and chime in too.

Be creative and have fun. Some have doubted that the candy would work with older kids (although that has not been my experience) so you may want to choose a different 
motivator or a different exercise. The point is, you can achieve results and establish team unity buy disguising drills within entertaining activities.

Please Note: If you choose to use the exercise above, please, do not use fishing hooks and always practice "catch & release"! We'd also like to 
discourage the temptation to use money as the motivator as it may cause a media frenzy regarding players armature status - It could happen!
